Manly Man

The discussion at dinner last night:

Chuck: I am going to get a kilt.
Beth: You're not Scottish.
C: Not a tartan kilt, just a plain one.
B: So you mean a skirt?
C: No, a kilt.
B: So a man skirt?
C: No, a kilt.
B. Yeah. A man skirt.

I swear I don't make this stuff up.

ROTFLOL! How hilarious!

I have to admit that when I read about this a few months back, I too was, um, fascinated.

Years ago when I was in Somalia with the navy, a lot of us 'went native' and wore these very comfortable cotton mid-calf-length wrap-around 'man-skirts' (as you called them). It was 115F in the shade and these 'skirts' made it possible to walk for more than 5 minutes without your thighs catching fire from the friction! There really is something to letting the troops get a little air once-in-a-while.

Unfortunately, as tempting as this 'utilikilt' might be, there are perhaps 5 or 6 guys outside of Scotland who could pull it off... and Chuck and I are not among them.

Of course, Gavin looks a lot like the guy who played 'The Bruce' in Braveheart. If he let his beard grow out a bit he could probably make it work. :-)

Do you have any ice? I think I bruised something falling off my chair laughing...went to the kilt site...the guy in the tool belt with his foot up on the lumber cracked me up! What does one wear under a kilt...hmmmm...

Braveheart! Chuck's gotta paint his face blue.

Julie,

A man wears nothing under his kilt.

You all may chuckle at Chuck's decision to go with a kilt, but this is another man who whole-heartedly stands by the masculinity of such an endeavor!

I would wear one myself if I had one. Kilts rock.

(And I AM Scottish!)

Jim, I wholeheartedly agree with you that kilts are very manly. And they're incredibly sexy.

The point I made to Chuck was that a non-Scot wearing a kilt is like a non-Indian wearing a sari. And it is no wonder that burka did not catch on world-wide for those fat days or bad hair days? Sure, one can do it, but it often comes off as affected.

And now at the risk of having to bow before the temple that is my husband and let him know he's right, if there is any man I know who could pull off wearing a man skirt, I dare say it would in fact be Chuck. And he's got damned nice legs too.
